Ecology in a river system is important because it affects the biodiversity, productivity, structure and health of the aquatic and terrestrial environments that grow & live in it.

The river systems are vital for the life and health of our planet. They support a rich biology & diversity of plants, animals, and microorganisms that interact with each other and their environment. These interactions form the river ecology, which is the study of how living and non-living structures and components of a river affect each other. River ecology is very important because it helps us understand and protect the benefits that rivers provide to humans and other flora & fauna to survive. Some of the basic benefits are water supply, habitats, food production, energy generation, climate regulation, and recreation. River  & lake ecology also helps us identify and address the threats that rivers face from pollution, overexploitation, habitat loss, invasive species, and climate change. By learning about river ecology, we can appreciate the beauty and complexity of river systems and their role in sustaining life on Earth for many years .

SAD RIVER – SLIPPERY SUCKERS ONLY

We love slippery little suckers because they just happen to be an integral part of our ecosystem.
But even they need an ecosystem within which to survive and they need their friends with them.
They need clear water, healthy fish, pretty plants, and clean air.
For our part, we need to TURN THE RIVER BACK THE WAY IT WAS for their sake and for ours.
The EcoReef Project has some answers – YOU have the rest.

FILTHY RIVER, FUNKY FISH, FAMINE

But it doesn’t need to be this way.

·
We CAN turn the river back the way it was

·
We CAN clean her waters

·
We CAN save our precious fish stocks

·
We CAN avoid a
devastating food shortage

·
We CAN do it now AT LITTLE OR NO COST

The EcoReef Project

Together we can.

 The EcoReef Project focuses on

• using heated plastics from waste plastic bags
• to bind timber and rubble
• to create land and water reefs
• to assist with controlling erosion and
• to improve fish habitat
We are introducing EcoReefs for anyone to use at no cost to them including ways for people to make a modest income from using EcoReefs in their own backyards
Little fish love ’em!
Frogs are coming back!

Can we retrofit FISH BREEDING into sterile irrigation systems?

The answer is a resounding – YES!

Will it cost heaps? NO!

Will it cost anything? NO!

Do we want to?

Fucked if I know.

The EcoReef Project

I appreciated this comment from a friend from our school days as it gave me the opportunity to explain the EcoReef Project a little further and to try and get the message across that the system is FREE for anyone to use ANYWHERE.

 Here it is –

Very impressive! Is this what you do Mike? Wonder if it’s workable in Pune,
India

·
Yes! The system is workable anywhere in the
world. In fact, there is nothing holding anyone back from using them as we
speak at no cost. I started working on the project basically because our river
systems are being decimated by misdirected water management and as such fish
breeding grounds are being constantly eroded. We will be updating information
constantly and any input from anyone who tests the system will be sincerely
appreciated.

If we TURN BACK THE RIVER the way it was, then frogs will come
back, fish will come back, shrimp will come back, crabs will come back,
crayfish will come back . . .

So you can sit at your favorite table in your special
restaurant on the water’s edge and wait for your seafood meal to be served.

Service may be a little late, however, while we catch up on
repairing our ‘F*#*#d ‘ food supply chain – But what the heck! Better late than
never!

Meanwhile, take your beady little eyes off our little frog’s
funky legs!!

The EcoReef Project uses the Beaver Dam Method

·        All of us are well aware of the dexterity of the beaver as it goes about its business of creating virtually indestructible habitats using twigs and branches

·        Humans are perhaps not capable of matching this expertise using twigs alone

·        EcoReefs offers a humble yet cheeky way to match our beaver buddies by binding twigs to rocks with heated plastic to build effective “Beaver Reefs”

·        EcoReefs will run along the edge of the waterways rather than damming the natural flow of water

Let’s TURN BACK THE RIVER the way the beavers knew it.

Rough Sandstorms

Ever tried making babies in a sandstorm?

Now that’s a bit rough!

That’s what fish are trying to do 24/7 just so’s you get
your next big fish ’n’ chips.

But we’ve straightened our rivers into water freeways so
there’s nowhere for fish to shelter from our grimy sandstorm racing to the
sea.

They get grit in their eyes and grit in their gills and even
grit in their ‘oopsies’!

So the next time you go to your ‘fav’ restaurant and all
that’s on the menu is grits? – Get used to it!

Meanwhile, come with us while we TURN BACK THE RIVER the way
it was
